Averill Creek Vineyard

Averill Creek was established by owner Andy Johnston who switched careers and dove into his life’s passion in the late 1990s. Lured by its climate and its great potential for Pinot Noir, Andy settled in the Cowichan Valley, selecting and planting the Averill Creek site on the side of Mount Prevost in 2001.

They are estate producers, growing the vast majority of their fruit on their 30 acres, with a small percentage sourced within 2 km. The property is surrounded by old-growth forest, which provides not only protection but also a range of growing conditions. This provides great character in the fruit.

Winemaker Brent Rowland makes wild fermented wines – no enzymes or nutrients are added. Most of the wines are unfined and unfiltered.

Délice offers a creamy, pillowy-soft textural experience very few cheeses can brag of. It’s mild, salty, lactic and sweet. The delicate intricacies presented by this cheese will astound you not only as a standalone, but with the grace with which it yields to a stunning 100% local Pinot Noir.

Vibrant and youthful, balanced and elegant, the Estate Pinot boasts a precise, textured acidity aligned with fine tannins and an essential freshness that makes it a treat all on its own. It’s a testament to its versatility how well these two play together, with our Pinot no more overwhelming Délice than being lost to it.

Tasting Experience

The tasting room is open daily. Reservations are recommended by calling (250) 709-9986. The 5 wine tastings are a leisurely, seated approach with a tasting on the Garden Terrace, where you can enjoy the wines at your own pace. You can enjoy the wines with snacks from the menu or stay for a glass of wine.

The Guided Experience | $40 per person. By reservation only.

For the wine-nerds and wine-curious: A sit down experience held in the private room, or on the outdoor Ocean-view Terrace (weather dependent). The team will provide an in-depth perspective on the winery, including the history, winemaking approach, vineyard management, and the regional terroir.
